Shilpa is a Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist, has completed MPhil in Clinical
Psychology from MAHE and is a RCI Licensed clinician. She offers both brief and longer-term
therapies to adults.
Her therapeutic stance leans towards a client-centered approach, and attempts to cultivate a
mutual understanding of the person’s difficulties within the framework of their present
conditions and previous experiences. She works in a collaborative manner to help patients in
finding new ways of relating to themselves and others.
Shilpa’s practice is strongly influenced by her training in Mentalization Based Treatment
(MBT). She has completed her advanced training in MBT with the Anna Freud Centre under
Prof Anthony Bateman and is in training for Group Therapy. Alongside certifications in
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Enhancement Therapy, she also provides
clinical supervision to mental health professionals from a variety of disciplines.
Her experience involves managing various clinical presentations including anxiety, depression,
work-related stress, substance use disorders commonly known as Addiction and personality
disorders both in an in-patient and out-patient facilities, in addition to carrying out psychological
assessments. She is particularly interested in psychotherapy for a range of difficulties,
specializing in therapy for adults with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), their families, and
individuals experiencing mid-life crises.
She is also engaged in research focused on the group experience of Mentalization-Based
Treatment (MBT), and the interplay between BPD, disordered eating, attachment, and emotional
difficulties.
In her role as Community Outreach Lead, she co-leads the book and movie club organized by
GOI, proactively seeking outreach initiatives and collaborations, including with corporate
entities, to enhance and encourage discussions on mental health and wellness. She has also
conducted numerous workshops for students, educators, and corporate teams, and serves as an
external examiner for universities.
