Research and Development

The Green Oak Initiative is committed to the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge that translates to better mental health services for our community. We are actively involved in independent as well as collaborative research with national and international organizations in our aim to contribute to the discourse on the conceptualization, assessment, and intervention for mental health and illness in India.

Some of the current projects we are working on currently,

  1. The MBT-Group project

GOI has been a pioneer in bringing MBT to the Indian community, and has been running MBT groups since 2018. Through this project we hope to explore the experience and impact of MBT groups on our participants through a qualitative study that focuses on the beneficial and challenging aspects of structured group based MBT. By examining reasons for drop-out and therapeutic elements, we hope to shed a brighter light on the needs of persons with borderline personality vulnerabilities in an Indian context.

  1. Patient initiated aggression experiences of psychiatry trainees in India

Given the often volatile nature of certain mental health conditions, psychiatrists are at risk of being on the receiving end of patient inflicted violence.  This risk can have an adverse impact on the mental health of treating clinicians, however workplace violence in this context remains underexplored. We are currently working on a research project aimed at understanding this phenomena better in order to improve workplace safety and formulate interventions to better support psychiatry residents.
