Through The Looking Glass (TTLG )
Hello from Green Oak’s book club, Through The Looking Glass (TTLG )!
May is regarded as the month for maternal mental health. So we thought to revive a classic that describes a new mother’s descent into psychosis. Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s short story, The Yellow Wallpaper , is often cited as an early feminist work that predates a woman’s right to vote in the United States. It raises important queries about the fine line between restriction and freedom while caring for someone with a mental illness. While we can be grateful for how much things have improved in recent years, we also know this may still be a story of women in remote areas of India lacking in mental health resources.
